Final: Figurative Statue

Presentation Day

This was my final presentation and it is basically photos that a attached to a mannequin that i have owned for a while now. Really happy with the outcome and i am also thankful for using the two key words to engage with my idea which was "Figurative" and "Statue".

The both of the arms represents culture and understandings and the body of work is mum's memories that she has shared so far through her life and the sculpture is her

I extended the bottom of the work and added a dress look to finish the piece of work off.

Mannequins, Lockets ,Trophies and Medals

The following images a just ideas on how i want to present my work that i am going to show on final day. But first just looking at ways that i could engage with this idea.

Mannequins

I really like these mannequins because i have a few at home, because my sister in-law works in retail and she had mannequins that she didn't want so she gave some to me to keep.

I have done a few designs on them just as experiment and it is good to work from there if i am thinking of putting that towards my work but i really like the fact that the mannequins are in female sculptures and it gives me a good idea at putting it towards my work.

Trophy

I really like the idea of giving mum a trophy it is more like a award that i could use in a way to award mum or even doing a video that i can show at the end of my research at the end of this paper.

Lockets

I like lockets and i've been looking at stores in my community and it is a bit hard to try and find some decent ones that i can use as a template and put a image in of mum.

Medals

The medal's is similar to trophy's in a way that you can give a award to mum.

What Worked?
I really like the variety of the Materials that i have researched but i am thinking more towards the mannequins idea.

What Didn't Work?
Looking for materials that i could use besides the mannequins that i have had for quite a while now.

What Next?
Next time i would try and get a hold of shops that specialise in materials such as the objects that i have researched.

Bibliographies

Most of my research that i have done in the past weeks have been all practical where i have had to interview and ask my mum for information about background checks and also what she gets into etc. The link below is the only website that i have that can show you a bit about her.

Experiment

Experiment

I will be putting down mum's weekly routine and followed by how she feels in a average day. When mum is not working or studying she is usually at home doing things that helps the house

Monday
On Monday mum always loves to clean in the morning followed by spring cleaning and she was a bit upset because my room was dirty. She seemed a bit calm after a while and it was good to help her with Monday night dinner.

Tuesday
Mum had a bad day today because dad started a argument with her so she couldn't focus on what she had plan for the day.

Wednesday
On Wednesday usually mum helps my younger sister out with work that she needs to get done and after we do everything we always go out for dinner because that is when the household has money haha.

Thursday
Thursday we always cook together and sometime change but usually mum always cooks what she loves and that is Chop suey and rice.

Friday to Sunday
Friday to Sunday is a rest weekend for mum she usually has friends that come over but most times she likes to rest and study.

What worked?
She really likes things when it is all how she left it. Making sure everything she does is consistent.

What didn't Work?
Sometimes it is hard for mum to focus when dad is there most of the times they argue and end up leaving the house.

What Next?
I want to try and see how she is at work instead of being at home and talking about what she does at home.

Experiments Ideas

Im going to think about interviewing my mum using voice recording and also just short clips of her inside and outside of the house.

How am i going to achieve this?
Set up a day that she has free to sit down with me, i will also be asking her some general questions about everything that involves her. Looking at making a montage or even a trailer, short clip similar to a interview.

 Ideas?

  • Getting her photo album of her and scan all the pictures or even the photos that have a history with mum. with everything that she likes and make a portrait of her.

  • I was thinking because i have some mannequins at home i could experiment on the objects and get something out of it and push it even more. applying photos or even text to the objects of her quotes or even her name and the places that she wants to go in the future.

Denise Georgina Peke Timeline

Today i interviewed mum and i also asked her if she could do a timeline for me that i could look at to see how she remembered growing up and what she achieved in her years. This was a good experience because i never got to sit down and talk to her about her younger years. I feel very blessed at this moment of time
